Putumayo Kids Presents Instrumental Dreamland CD

As a mom and a former elementary school teacher, I have been a big fan of soothing, instrumental music for kids. Before my first child was born I spent lots of time listening to classical music in hopes she would be soothed by the music after she was born. The little, colicky kid was not soothed by anything, but she did learn to recognize Mozart, Bach, and other composers at an early age. When naptime rolled around for my kindergarten students, I played soothing instrumental music. It usually calmed them and sent them right to sleep.

The new CD from Putamayo Kids, Instrumental Dreamland can help kids drift off into slumber with relaxing instrumental music from eleven classic tunes including:

1 What a Wonderful World
2 Bressay Lullaby/Don Oiche
3 O Filho Que Eu Quero Ter
4 Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
5 Komoriuta (Lullaby)
6 Kouyate (Thanks Good People)
7 Pupu Hinuhinu (Shiny Shell Lullaby)
8 Hand in Hand
9 Honu's Dream
10 Lark *
11 Brahm's Lullaby

Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world’s cultures. In the past eighteen years, the record label has become known primarily for its upbeat and melodic compilations of great international music characterized by the company’s motto: “guaranteed to make you feel good!”

I'm a big proponent of teaching children about other cultures, so I love how this includes songs from around the world. The Putumayo Kids Music is a great introduction to other cultures and the music is so fun and upbeat. I couldn't find a clip from Instrumental Dreamland but here's Asheba singing, "No More Monkeys."

Of course, the instrumental Dreamland version is calmer and more serene. I almost fell asleep during Brahm's Lullaby. It didn't help that I was already exhausted. Instrumental Dreamland will be released on CD Tuesday, February 28th, 2012.

I'd probably enjoy this for myself or it would also be great to play in the car on trips.
